About Wyoming
Wyoming, a suburb in the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia, lies 4 kilometers northeast of Gosford`s central business district and is governed by the Central Coast Council. Prior to European settlement, the Wyoming area was inhabited by the Kuringgai people. In 1824, Frederick Augustus Hely acquired 1,340 acres of land, naming it after the Wyoming Valley in Pennsylvania. Despite Hely`s death before completing his planned house, his mausoleum, designed by architect John Verge, stands near the Pacific Highway. Wyoming is primarily residential, featuring a pub built by convicts in 1854, medical centers, three primary schools, the Wyoming Shopping Village, and various amenities. The suburb is known for the Wyoming Tigers football (soccer) club and offers bushwalking opportunities along streets bordered by temperate-subtropical rainforest. The 2016 census reported a population of 10,134, with notable heritage-listed sites including Hely`s Grave and Wyoming Cottage. Wyoming Shopping Village, housing a Coles supermarket, was reconstructed in 2004, while the Wyoming Community Centre at 147 Maidens Brush Road serves as a local not-for-profit organization offering diverse services and activities for the community.
