About Matcham
A semi-rural suburb in the local government area of the Central Coast Council, Matcham is located in the Central Coast region of New South Wales, Australia. The Matcham Estate, a 2,560-acre grant made to Charles Horatio Nelson Matcham, a nephew of Lord Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson, is where the suburb got its name. In 1828, Charles Horatio Matcham traveled to Sydney. The land was promised to Charles Matcham of the Murrumbidgee River as a primary grant, and he was permitted to begin living on it on October 18, 1831. The deed, dated January 1, 1840, is recorded in book 59/129. He continued to live at "Bogolong" Murrumbidgee until his death on March 11, 1844. After going through several hands without any development until 1907, when George Matcham sold it to Niagara Park`s Frank L Measures, the estate was given to his nephew.
